What’s up, kuya? (6/18/20)

Great news on the new normal in Singapore. Retail is re-opening from tomorrow. Dining in will be allowed at restaurants and hawker centres. Meeting with friends and family from different households will be allowed.

It’s most likely I will be keeping to the status quo of cooking at home, getting take-out or receiving deliveries, and staying away from crowded malls. As a work pass holder in Singapore, I feel like I want to take more precautions. Why? I’m concerned about the sufficiency of the health coverage I get. I don’t receive allowances from the government here. I’m leaning towards being conservative and staying safe at home.

That said, I’m out of sinigang mix. I haven’t made the trip to the Filipino store at Tampines MRT since I’ve largely avoided going to the neighborhood centre even during phase 1. I can’t find sinigang mix in the nearby grocery stores since I don’t want to hop from one store to the next.

Bedok Reservoir during Phase 1 (Early June 2020)

I enjoy jogging at the nearby reservoir. Mainly for two reasons: It’s something I can do to (1) safely maintain exercise and (2) maintain sanity.

It’s great to see other Filipinos in Singapore running and biking. I follow many of my former dragon boat teammates on Strava. I’ll tell you this, each time I’m proud of my 3 to 5 km run, a former teammate will have accomplished a 10 km. It encourages me to keep it up and keep improving. I mentioned these benefits in an earlier post about joining a dragon boat team in Singapore.

What is Singapore Kuya?

I started Singapore Kuya as a passion project. I envision it as an additional resource for Filipinos living and working in Singapore. I promise to give it my own flair since I’ve called Singapore my home the past eight years.

Now that Singapore is re-opening, I’ll be able to create new content. Do follow the page and stay safe.
